SUNDAY SCHOOL

The St. Thomas ' Sunday School program for 2006 was very successful.  We had thirty children enrolled, from preschool through sixth grade.  Our attendance on most Sundays ranged from twelve to twenty-five children, with the best attendance in September and December.

The largest class (thirteen students) was our pre-K, K, and First Grade class (pre-readers) taught by Karen Lynch.  Rita Ann Schmick and Samantha Chastain taught between two and six children in second and third grades. Emilie Dupont taught between three and seven students in Fourth and Fifth grades, and Kerri Yezuita taught between two and four students in Sixth Grade.

Pre-K-Third Grade students focused on learning about the life and love of Jesus.  The Fourth and Fifth graders focused on the stories of the Old Testament, and the Sixth Grade confirmation class learned the prayers, creeds, commandments and foundations of the Christian Episcopal Faith.

We are currently looking for helpers and substitutes for Sunday mornings between now and early June.  Karen Lynch has a very large class and can always use an assistant or two.  We are considering changing the time for Sunday School classes so that teachers would be able to attend the service and/or sing in the choir.

Since Sunday School meets at the same time as the 10:00 service, we have a difficult time attracting teachers williing to miss the sermon every Sunday. Please talk to Father Charles or Emilie Dupont if you have an opinion on this issue.
